Formally called as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, it is also known as the Affordable Care Act, ACA, or Obamacare (because it was signed into law by President Barack Obama). It is often described as a healthcare reform law, but more accurately should be described as a health insurance reform law.
The law has three primary goals. 1, Make affordable health insurance available to more people. 2, Expand the Medicaid program to cover all adults with income below 138% of the federal poverty level. And, 3, Support innovative medical care delivery methods designed to lower the costs of healthcare generally.
